Gourmet In Gundy is a fantastic event for food, wine and festivities held every year, perfectly timed at the start of superb Spring. Three years ago, Dragon Boat Racing was introduced as a wonderful addition to the day- this year, Ray White Rural Goondiwindi was on one of the four teams of 20 people partaking in the surprisingly fun and competitive event.
We rose early on the Sunday morning and rounded up our team of ‘Great Whites’. Race one and we were up! Next to no-one in our team had experience in Dragon Boat Racing, but that did not sway us as after 200 meters of slightly uncoordinated paddling, we had won our first race. As you can imagine, this lifted our spirits for the second race, which we went on to once again be victorious.
Before we knew it, we were in the boat again for our third and final race- The Grand Final! By this time, our team of 20 Dragon Boat Racers were determined to win that shiny trophy for our office. The race was on, 200m of explosive paddling, counting to four over and over to keep time, and at the end of the 200 meters come a final cheer of success, ‘The Great Whites’ had won the 2013 Dragon Boat Races!
Satisfied with our efforts, we boarded off the boats and enjoyed the rest of the day in the sun at the Gourmet in Gundy.
